about us

Our mission

Our mission is to provide services throughout the lifespan for all people to have equal value and opportunities to lead productive and fulfilling lives.

Our vision

Our vision is for Excentia Human Services to be a catalyst in enhancing lives of the people we serve through relationship building and innovative programs, continually striving to transform our community into an inclusive place for everyone.

Our NAME

Pronounced “x-cen-cha,” our name is a composite of the words “essence” and “excellence.” Excentia represents the unique element that defines an individual’s core, or their “essence,” and the honoring of each person’s essence, and circumstances, as they strive to excel as their best selves. This philosophy fuels everything we do for the people we support and our team of dedicated employees who make our mission possible.

OUR VALUES

  • We believe in approaching everything we do with integrity, honesty, respect, and accountability.
  • We believe in creating a positive, supportive environment where all people can have their voice heard.
  • We believe in cultural competency, high ethical standards, and equality and fairness in all things.
  • We believe in building partnerships with the people we serve, their families, and everyone in our community.

The History of Excentia

For almost 60 years, Excentia Human Services has served Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Starting as the PAI Corporation, services included residential and day programming for adults with developmental disabilities. PAI eventually became an initialism for “Partners in Achieving Independence” and focused on helping people achieve independent lives regardless of disability.

Twenty-five years later, the PAI Corporation acquired the United Support Group and continued to increase the number of individuals and families it impacted. In 2013, Excentia expanded its services to include services for children,  by acquiring the S. June Smith Center, a center with a formidable and longstanding legacy in the community.  Six years later, our organization rebranded to Excentia Human Services to reflect its commitment to inclusion and providing services for people throughout their lifespans.
